Blessed is the man…
Opening my eyes to greet the new day,
As darkness vanishes,
Bathed in dawn’s gentle approach…
Planting my feet on carpeted floor to begin again
My daily, allotted steps on this earth…
In places and with people,
Working, Conversing, Nurturing, Ministering,
(and praying all the while)—
Duties fitting for this child of the Heavenly Kingdom,
This servant of the Living God.
Moving in the direction of Godly counsel,
Toward Light that illuminates my path,
And brightens my day,
I direct my thoughts to linger on His thoughts for me.
I am keenly aware of other choices,
And deceptive chances…
Desiring to draw my feet toward another way…
To fill my hands with trinkets of silliness,
My days with tasks less sacred…
Occupying ears, eyes, heart and mind
With ideals not holy.
(I shake my head, No. And look straight ahead.)
As winds of circumstance blow
And relational tempests pour vicious, disturbing torrents upon me,
when my own failings cause me grief,
Threatening to drive another daughter of the King
Far away from my purpose…
Knocking my feet out from under my frame,
Causing momentary stumbling and faltering,
Carrying me off the chosen path,
Bringing this one dangerously close to the precipice of perilous compromise,
Possibly yanking my frail form from the steeply narrow trail
(for I walk by faith),
And onto the rocks of destruction below…
These are the times,
I must continually ask myself,
Where will I stand?
Do I know to where I walk?
When faced with uncertain future,
Have I determined which path I will (still) follow?
In times of doubting,
Or when needing directions,
Will I seek guidance from the One Who made me
And knows my needs best of all?
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me. – Psalm 23:4
At the crossroads of each new day
Will I continue to choose the path on the Right?
Or will I waver,
Forgetting the end of unredeemed ones,
Who have chosen pursuits of unholiness?
Whose feet are not planted firmly in truth,
Whose opinions change as often as the shifting currents of popular culture,
Who unfortunately find acceptance now,
yet, will beg for acceptance when standing on that final day
Before God’s throne,
After squandering their sole earthly existence
In non-conformity to the Holy One—
The Friend of sinners,
The sacrificial Lamb,
The God with us in human form…
Those who chose time and again to walk away from their Maker,
Whose names will not appear in the eternal record of God’s own—
Heirs to all that is His—
Who will not have gained entrance to the assembly of worshipers
Beyond Heaven’s gates.
Because the way of the ungodly leads to a deadly end,
a grievous and destructive end.
For those who plod along faithfully
(sometimes joyfully, sometimes painfully,
and even at times, mundanely)
Toward their forever Reward,
Who stand for truth,
Walk in Light,
And sit among the wise…
Whose thoughts embrace purity,
Whose words offer grace,
Whose deeds embody goodness—
These are the ones favored by God.
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree planted
By the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
– Psalm 1
