Hanging in my bathroom is this daily reminder to look for good. Unfortunately, I am reminded too often this effort will take a lifetime to learn. To train my vision and my thinking in this way, to develop the routine of focusing my attention on whatever speck of Divine possibility exists, even if it means digging through mounds of ugly human fallen-ness to find it… to shape and strengthen the ability of believing in the power of goodness—continually flowing from the Author of all that is good, from the One who tirelessly works at fashioning His people to resemble Him.
He who went to the trouble of creating all of this, knowing beforehand how badly we would mess things up, but saw the good that would come, and formed humanity anyway… breathes His goodness into us, so that we can breathe that same goodness into each other.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. – Philippians 4:8
